The Modern Grandad Laboratory Gets Its First Tool
Something new has appeared on the Modern Grandad website.
It’s small.
It’s practical.
And I’m rather pleased with it.
It’s a Grandchild Height Calculator.

This started, as these things often do, with me being curious.
I was sitting on the floor reading a library book with my two-year-old grandson when I came across a line that said:
“You are now half the height you will reach as a fully grown adult!”
Really?
So I went down the rabbit hole.
Is that actually true?
What does the science say?
What about boys and girls?
What about genetics?
And, eventually:
Could I make something useful from all this?
Turns out I could.
So I did.
The calculator lets you put in your grandchild’s current height and their parents’ heights, then compares two different ways of estimating their eventual adult height.
You can even put their name on a little personalised card and send it to their parents.
It’s free.
No email.
No nuffin’.

And this is where it gets interesting for me.
Over the past few weeks I’ve been adding One-Year-Old Laboratory and Two-Year-Old Laboratory sections to Modern Grandad.
They’re where I document things I’m actually trying with my grandson.
And now one of those experiments has produced something other people can use.
A question → some research → a useful thing.
This is the first practical tool I’ve made on the Modern Grandad journey.
It won’t be the last.
