You’ve thought about where you are now.
You’ve looked at the window you have ahead of you.
Now comes the part that matters.
Decide what kind of grandad you want to be.
You don’t need to become someone else. You don’t need to have all the answers. And you certainly don’t need to be a perfect grandad.
You just need to decide:
“This is the kind of grandad I’m going to be.”
I created the Modern Grandad Pledge as a simple way to put that decision into words.
Download it. Print it. Read it.
If it says what you want to say, sign it.
Put it somewhere you’ll see it. Fold it into a drawer. Keep it private. Or perhaps give it to your grandchild one day. (I’ve put mine in a special box in my drawer labelled Remy.) Inside the box, a note says ‘Things I want Remy to have in case I don’t get the chance to give it to him myself.’)
It doesn’t really matter what you do with the piece of paper.
What matters is that you meant it when you signed it.
And then tomorrow…
Do one small thing that proves it.
